Genesee Land Trust to dedicate new preserve, trails in Webster Aug. 3
Webster, N.Y. —
The Genesee Land Trust is celebrating the dedication and opening of the 71-acre Eva and Harlan Braman Preserve in Webster with a ceremony at 10 a.m. this Saturday, Aug. 3, in the 1700 block of Ridge Road, Webster.
The preserve, donated to the land trust by Webster resident Laurel Bruns and her brother, Gary Braman, in December 2011, is comprised of about 60 acres of field, previously farmed, and about 11 acres of mature forest.
In the recent past, the property has provided field habitat for bobolinks and other birds, including migratory birds.
Bruns and Braman made the gift in honor of their grandparents, Eva and Harlan Braman.
Remembering a childhood of eating apples grown in her grandfather’s orchards, Bruns thought about the future of the beautiful natural setting and talked with her brother about turning it into a preserve that could be enjoyed by wildlife and by people.
Trails at the new preserve are open to the public.
The gift has brought Genesee Land Trust’s protected lands and waterways to over 4,100 acres.
